 Tiburon and Tiburon II - Original and Commission - by Victoria Kloch Last December I had the privilege to re-create this contemporary abstract painting. The original was 30"x40" and the client needed 36"x48". This panting is a complex piece with thin layers upon layers. Prussian Blue Winsor Newton watercolor paint has got to be on the top of my list of favorite watercolors to use. For this painting I used it on bright white, 300 lb. hot press by Fabriano. It amazed me how by using just one color could create such depth but that was only possible because of this high quality watercolor paper. When this gets framed under glass, all I can say is wow! This painting was in inspired from another hike in Sunol many years ago. We had spent the whole day exploring the hills and by the time we started to head back the sky was starting to change. From where we were, the light was moving behind the trees cooling us from the heat of the day. As we looked up into the vista the view was breathtaking to my eyes where the sky in the far off distance now had a bluish lavender glow. Sunol Regional Wilderness Park in Alameda County, Ca. is one of my most favorite places to hike locally. That is our go to place to get away when we want to take in all that nature has to offer. For a longtime I have been wanting to document our hikes with an oil painting but never took the time to do so. Wienke's View is my first. What I wanted to capture in this piece are the rich colors and textures of my beautiful state. When I was a kid, I remember asking my mother why are the hills all dry and yellow? She so beautifully replied that they are our golden hills. After that I saw them with different eyes and appreciated the amazing contrast between the sky, deep green trees and our golden hills. Mr. Wiebke your favorite view was breathtaking and thank you Mom for helping me see. The first Purple, Red and Rose Blocks that I painted sold within 24 hours of posting it's availability. I don't usually re-create a piece like this unless someone request a commission, but Kurt suggested that I should do it again. I took on his challenge just to see if I could pull it off again. The first piece glowed with excitement using bold bright colors that I don't normally use. My own insecurities had me question was the first one a happy accident or can I contribute it's success to skillfully executed painting techniques? If you have ever tried to paint a Rothko color field with acrylic paints you will know it's not as easy as it looks. My Rothko studies have helped me tremendously as a painter to learn depth and color combinations that I can use in all of my painting. As for was I able to capture that same magic of the first painting? The painting on the left sold. Soon after the client requested a companion piece. Each painting measures 24" x 18". I used Chinese Ink painted with a Calame bamboo reed dip pen on acid free, 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.  'Mirage' an original color field painting by Victoria Kloch Mirage was painted with yellow, white and gray acrylic on raw canvas. I was very happy with this method of painting. This technique is called stain painting and was discovered by Helen Frankenthaler. This piece is currently un stretched. After it is placed on wooden stretcher bars the final size will be 24"x35".   In the Pink 30"x30" original color field abstract painting by Victoria Kloch On Saturday I received a request for a custom painting of one of my most recent paintings 'In the Pink'. This project will be to create two smaller oblong pieces to run horizontally 20"x48" across. Here you can get an idea by using Photoshop what the overall paintings will look like though the actual recreation will have it's own unique story by using the same color palette and technique. My favorite time to visit the ocean is very early in the morning at the peak of low tide. That is when the ocean reveals all the amazing creatures that are usually tucked away far from what our eyes can see. For me, I honestly can not think of a better place to be. Giclee prints are available for this piece.  Ocean Transcend 88"x77" - commission As I stood in front of my blank canvas that was way taller then me, I have to admit I was afraid to even begin. The size of this huge piece had to be painted using a ladder and I was temporary terrified. After facing my fears and realizing how ridiculous I was feeling, I started painting. To my surprise the painting flowed and probably was one of my most enjoyable pieces yet.   Blue Zip 52"x78" - acrylic on canvas. - Commission work. My original 'Blue Zip' was a small watercolor that went viral on Pinterest and is still being shared and reposted. This set was commission years ago. I came across this when I was going through my files and I really loved this piece. The painting on the left is 24"x24" the right is 24" x36". Below they have been installed in their home. What a great room, don't you think?  In the Pink - color field painting by Victoria Kloch 30"x30" Color field painting is a way to express emotions. It is pretty much a given that the use of color choices influence the way the eye interprets that emotion. If you are a painter you have experienced and no doubt remember how you felt at the time spent with each of your paintings. I remember so clearly the quiet, gentle air of that day. No pressure or expectations of the final outcome. Purely in the moment with this. With a squeegee and white paint I was in the zone of discovery uncovering pink and siennas underneath with a side to side horizontal movement. Hand and mind connected to reveal something sweet. I have really never been much of a pink or magenta person but lately I have fallen in love with these colors of berries. Add some gold and a touch of lavender and it is like looking at music. Mulberry Row is not available, but I would be happy to re-create this piece.  Zen Perceiving the Bull - 50"x50" acrylic on un- stretched canvas When painting this piece it was initially a huge struggle. So much so I have two paintings underneath of what you see here. It was building up a lot of texture for sure. It was only when I lost myself and finally got to the place that it was just me and the paint it all started to fall into place. Yes, for me this has become an emotional body of work where no bull can hide. In loving memory of Jolyon Pehrson, friend and teacher. Perceiving the Bull (3) - taken from the master teachings 'Zen Flesh Zen Bones' I hear the song of the nightingale. The sun is warm, the wind is mild, willows are green along the shore, Here no bull can hide! What artist can draw that massive head, those majestic horns? Comment: When one hears the voice, one can sense its source. As soon as the six senses merge, the gate is entered. Wherever one enters one sees the head of the bull! This unity is like salt in water, like color in dyestuff. The slightest thing is not apart from self. What is the Bull? The bull is the eternal principle of life, truth in action.
