New Beginning - hard edge geometric oil painting by Victoria Kloch I'm super excited about my newest series of minimal geometrics. This piece is only the beginning. When I create my compositions, there is a lot of things to consider. The balance of color and shape placement is intentional. Every shape with it's color has to work together in harmony from the tip top corners that must work with the bottom corners and throughout using everything in between. My love for these pieces is driven by the challenge each piece presents itself. Now here's the test that they do work as great design. As I studied my complicated works I found vignettes that can stand on their own. I am over top, brimming with joy to get started on these colorful minimal hard edge abstracts. This one is my first. Untitled 1/1/2019, original abstract painting by Victoria Kloch, inspired by Jackson Pollock I've have painted a few of these now by using sticks from trees like Pollock did to sling and spatter paint on paper. As I mentioned before in another post, the challenge is to create a composition with balance and interest. What I love about doing these on natural art paper it has an airiness about it showing each individual drip and splat. For this piece I used gray and black. Three Shades of Gold - 30"x40" by Victoria Kloch - Sold Elegant Gold, I never get tired of painting with gold metallic acrylics. I find the reflective nature very exciting as it picks up different colors in the room. No wonder it's so popular. Kite Runner, 30"x35" by Victoria Kloch
This is my latest painting in my new on-going series of white-line hard edge abstract abstract. After painting hard edge geometrics for the past 10 years I had the nagging desire to create with more fluid, organic shapes. After a year of putting it off, I surrendered to whatever it is that puts these ideas in my brain. I now I can't paint them fast enough before I have a new one going in my mind. Fortunately I can paint these in between my commission work and it feels so liberating to have that passion back. Thank you, Victoria #Minimalism #hardedgegeometric #whitelinegeometric #stellainspired My lastest piece of artwork is 'Hollow Bean' 40"x40" with white lines. The painting below 'Wind' 36"x36" is also a white line abstract. Their design is strong with the movement of a neutral palette directed with it's white lines. I'm over the top excited and looking forward to creating similar works. Prussian Blue 29.5"x41" watercolor on paper seascape color field painting by Victoria Kloch - Sold
Prussian Blue Winsor Newton watercolor paint has got to be on the top of my list of favorite watercolors to use. For this painting I used it on bright white, 300 lb. hot press by Fabriano. It amazed me how by using just one color could create such depth but that was only possible because of this high quality watercolor paper. When this gets framed under glass, all I can say is wow! Purple, Red and Rose Blocks #2 - 36"x36" acrylic on canvas Color Field Painting by Victoria Kloch
The first Purple, Red and Rose Blocks that I painted sold within 24 hours of posting it's availability. I don't usually re-create a piece like this unless someone request a commission, but Kurt suggested that I should do it again. I took on his challenge just to see if I could pull it off again. The first piece glowed with excitement using bold bright colors that I don't normally use. My own insecurities had me question was the first one a happy accident or can I contribute it's success to skillfully executed painting techniques? If you have ever tried to paint a Rothko color field with acrylic paints you will know it's not as easy as it looks. My Rothko studies have helped me tremendously as a painter to learn depth and color combinations that I can use in all of my painting. As for was I able to capture that same magic of the first painting? Let 's just say, I am very happy with this piece. #Mark Rothko, #Rothko color field, #abstract color field In the Pink 30"x30" original color field abstract painting by Victoria Kloch
On Saturday I received a request for a custom painting of one of my most recent paintings 'In the Pink'. This project will be to create two smaller oblong pieces to run horizontally 20"x48" across. Here you can get an idea by using Photoshop what the overall paintings will look like though the actual recreation will have it's own unique story by using the same color palette and technique. Below - the finished re-created commission paintings In the Pink. 20"x48" Blue Zip 52"x78" - acrylic on canvas. - Commission work.
My original 'Blue Zip' was a small watercolor that went viral on Pinterest and is still being shared and reposted. I have since re-created my 'Blue Zip' watercolor several times over and now making those available as prints. Below is the small original 'Blue Zip" by Victoria Kloch In the Pink - color field painting by Victoria Kloch 30"x30"
Color field painting is a way to express emotions. It is pretty much a given that the use of color choices influence the way the eye interprets that emotion. If you are a painter you have experienced and no doubt remember how you felt at the time spent with each of your paintings. I remember so clearly the quiet, gentle air of that day. No pressure or expectations of the final outcome. Purely in the moment with this. With a squeegee and white paint I was in the zone of discovery uncovering pink and siennas underneath with a side to side horizontal movement. Hand and mind connected to reveal something sweet. Mulberry Row 90" x 48" modern minimal by Victoria Kloch
I have really never been much of a pink or magenta person but lately I have fallen in love with these colors of berries. Add some gold and a touch of lavender and it is like looking at music. Mulberry Row is not available, but I would be happy to re-create this piece. I Know There's a Silver Lining Somewhere II - Color Field painting by Victoria Kloch 60"x50"
This piece was a commissioned painting that I re-created in 2017. On it's own, white can make a striking statement. By adding a bit of silver to it, it sings with unpretentious elegance of modern minimalism. All is Not in Black and White 24"x36" acrylic on stretched canvas by Victoria Kloch
It seems the older I get the more it is apparent to me that life has far more gray areas then I realize. I am constantly in a state of trying to minimalize my life. There is really something to be said about the phase, Keep it Simple Stupid. Are you interested in this painting? Please check SELECT WORK or Contact for availability. Latte 30"x30" acrylic on canvas color field painting by Victoria Kloch
I really had fun with this piece. To create the movement I had to use a lot of paint. I had paint all over the place. Working with paint like this gave me the flowing, oozing movement of the sienna in the white. I found with all of the different values of this one color so exciting that I decided not to add another color and kept it minimal in design. This painting is on stretched canvas and is ready to hang. Please contact for availability. This color field is just as it is called, Deep Gray Blue. It is 30"x30" with painterly rolling textures. I came up with a neutral blue that I fell in love with against the white. It is not as bright as Prussian Blue yet very soothing to look at. For availability you can check the select works page or contact page. Please include the name of the painting in your inquiry. Thank you, Victoria
A Taste of Wine - Color Field abstract painting - 30"x40" acrylic on stretched canvas by Victoria Kloch - Sold
It is always a welcome surprise when a painting finds just that right collector and today was that day for the Taste of Wine. I recreated this same painting for the Fort Totten Community Center measuring 36"x60". Green Field abstract color field painting by Victoria Kloch - Sold
My Green Field painting was created with layer after layer of glazes. This painting along with my painting Cinnamon was purchased by the same collector who I thoroughly enjoyed working with. Cinnamon Color Field 48"x30" by Victoria Kloch has sold. This piece of modern minimalism was created by using many layers of glazes. Initially I applied aqua followed with burnt sienna. The intention was to neutralize the brightness of the aqua with the sienna and it worked beautifully.
For the past year I've been really busy getting a web site up for my sweet Kurt and I afraid this blog took a backseat. Now the world can see his amazing, shaped canvas paintings click here Kurt Wedgley.
OK..... now I can get down to business, so HELLO COLOR! Chasing Rothko - a 36"x36" color field abstract by Victoria Kloch It's no secret how much I love the work of Mark Rothko. This is one of my paintings that I recently created that was inspired by the master with a little twist of my own. Red, white, yellow, magenta and rose over yellow oxide with yellow oxide sides. This artist is on fire with geometric passion running through his veins! My partner Kurt Wedgley is finally doing what he always wanted to do. For the past two years Kurt has been telling me that he wanted to make paintings on complex structured canvases. Boy, he wasn't kidding me. This geometric piece of fine art is titled Pueblo Errante - Wandering Village. The striking presentation is 4'x6'x5" with 56 corners, floating post and boxes that create shadows on white canvas. All of the edges have been carefully beveled on his engineered frame that took over two weeks to build. I'm excited, he promised to build one for me to paint on. I can hardly wait.
My latest painting is titled 'The Year of the Ox'. This ink abstract was created on handmade paper by the Indigo Company.
Titled 'Year of the Snake' a 22"x30" ink abstract painting by Victoria Kloch. I'm so mesmerized by the interaction of the ink on this beautiful rustic handmade paper by The Indigo paper company, This is my current direction in between commission work. When I paint with black inks on this handmade earthy paper using the bamboo reed dip pen I am probably in the closest thing to Zen that I can get to. We all need that, right? The final result creates a natural elegance that I'm so in love with. Framing these on top of the mat to display the gorgeous deckled edges with the natural dents and waves of this handmade paper would be the icing on the cake. Thanks for visiting.
Octopus Ink is an ink on watercolor abstract painting. I just let it go with this one with blooms, puddles and drips. This large 29"x 41" painting was created on beautiful Fabriano watercolor paper. This piece is currently available to purchase.
Thank you for visiting. Puddle Jump - original large watercolor 29.5"X41" - modern minimalism by Victoria Kloch
