🔴 About this custom-made canvas.
From start to finish, Kurt uses hand selected lumber to engineer shapes with a custom jig he made for cutting curves and beveled edges. The bare bones of this piece is a work of art in itself. An image of the bare structure has been provided. With large canvas material, each frame was covered, staple on back, and primed with a professional grade gesso. They’ve been painted with professional grade acrylic paint. With Kurt Wedgley’s eye for detail, the black hole outer edge has a thin glossy varnish to simulate the point of ‘Point of no return’ or ‘Event Horizon’.
🔴 About the black paint.
Extensive research was made when looking for the blackest paint on the market. Wedgley went with the second blackest substance as the first was made from carbon nano tubes and was too fragile. He decided to use black Nextel 4-part coating. It required conditions when painting to have the environment temperature and humidity exactly as directed, including particle size and air pressure.
SO with a smile on Kurt‘s face, he finally achieved a beautiful non-reflective black hole he'd been looking for after three attempts.
The cost of this highly specialized black paint alone cost $200 for a small amount.
